European Nights - The Misery and the Ecstacy

Not a great week of European action for me. ManU lost at Copenhagen thanks to triple injury blow. During last weekend against Bolton, they started with their best XI players after a long long time and we saw how they demolished the Trotters. A few injuries now and ManU are in a limp! That's where Chelsea scores over ManU with their strength in squad depth. However, it wasn't a pretty sight at the Nou Camp with cards being dished out to every other player. Well, seeing Mourinho's celebrations, one would think his team won at the Nou Camp. Relax Jose, it was only a draw and there's still a long way to go. Btw, Real won thanks to a freakish own goal and qualified.

The only consolation for me was AC Milan's performance and the fact that they have almost qualified. If only they can reproduce their European form in Serie A too! They are nearly 14 points behind leaders Inter!

Arsenal...my god! how many chances must they have missed?? They kept hounding CSKA's goal, missed so many sitters that no wonder the crowds became distraught. Their group has become so evenly poised now!

The next round of matches should be really exciting now. Teams that have qualified include Bayern Munich, Valencia, Liverpool, PSV Eidhoven, Lyon, Real Madrid.

Questions to ponder...
Can Chelsea be beaten in Europe this season?
Who should ManU sign during this winter transfer window if they have to succeed both in EPL and in Europe?

Great result against Pompey.

Isn't Rossi's Newcastle loan up in January? Do you think they'll send him out on loan again or keep him for the rest of the season?

Do you think Utd will make a move for Hargreaves?

I hope Rossi returns to ManU...i feel he can develop into a fine player but he needs more chances. I am sure Rossi will return in January since I hear Newc are planning to buy one more striker in January.

Supposedly, Bayern wants either O'Shea or Brown in part exchange for Owen Hargreaves...i hope O'Shea is sold...he is a jack of all trades but master of none!

@Lena
I think Fergie will take Rossi back. United have reiterated they will go for Hargreaves...although i would prefer West Ham's Nigel Reo-Coker over him.

@Lakshman
That would be a great deal!

why is everyone forgetting ronaldinho played a huge role in Barca winning the double last season....agreed that his WC form wasnt good but i think that award was for wat he achieved last season.

Trading O'Shea for Hargreaves? Haha. I really hope he would take Old Trafford by storm. In my opinion, if someone were to be bought at £14 million, it's HIM, not Carrick. Not that I doubt Carrick's ability though.

But let's get to point shall we?
Can Chelsea be beaten in Europe this season? Definetely. There's no such thing as 'invincible' in the football dictionary as far as winning is concerned. And all the more I hope Man Utd will be the team to achieve that. ;)

And:
Who should ManU sign during this winter transfer window if they have to succeed both in EPL and in Europe? As we have speculated: Hargreaves. Still I am absolutely convinced another member would piece the missing jigsaw. Probably another defender.

@Soccerguy
I hope so too :))

I think ManU needs a defensive midfielder, a winger and a striker...i dont see a need for a defender...we have got that position covered...perhaps we do need a proper RB as a cover for Neville.

I say a winger because if Giggs gets injured, God forbid, we do not have adequate cover for him....same case in the striking department as well. Smith, am sad to say, is not up to the mark especially after his horrific injury.

Owen Hargreaves might turn out to be a white elephant and certainly would not be worth more than 13 million Pounds(maximum). Bundesliga to EPL transition would take time.

Should try for Reo Coker who's young, covers good distance and breaks up very well.

Defender would be the last thing on Fergie's minds. Rossi on loan, Smith to be loaned out probably. Where are the strikers? And a proper left winger, not Kieran Richardson, pretty inconsistent.

I heard WHam rejected bids for Reo-Coker, from ManU and Arsenal, each worth 15 million pounds! I wonder if he is worth 20 million?

He will not go to Chelsea. Wait for some years when the break away clause can be activated. Then can get him like Wenger got Rosicky.
