Rooney has a good scoring record against Newcastle. Let's see if he'll bag a couple goals tomorrow.

I think the floodgates will open today and Manu might hammer the toons. Mclaren meanwhile has said that he will pick Rooney even if he is not scoring which i think is crap especially with AJ and Crouch doing so well.
If he is not playing well he should be dropped... plain and simple.

Rooney's in a mess for which no one except him can be held responsible. In fact, Rooney has been very inconsistent. A swashbuckling debut against Fenerbahce still awaits another champions league to continue the sequence. And assists wise, he's good but ain't there among the best 5, not yet.Saha has been the most consistent in his limited spell and of course, the evergreen Solksjaer. Roo and Ron maybe the future, but 'sporadic' happens to be their middle name for now atleast.

Atleast people now realize Vieira's hot headedness should not be attributed to be the entire team. I'm really happy for EPL now that O'Neill's unsung heroes have pulled another rabbit out of the hat.

ManU thrashed Newc....that's the entertaining and attacking football which i was talking abt! Pity they dint score more. I guess Ron has the record as the player who has hit the post the number of times in recent times.

I really admire the way O'Neill has inspired and motivated his team, with the same resources O'Leary had with the exception of Petrov. Good to see Chelsea being held at the Bridge. If only someone could beat them too!

Ronaldo is really an exceptional player at ManU. Not as good as Cantona (who he's been compared to) and others, but I believe he would one day. It's really wonderful to see him blossomed since his days at Lisbon.

As for Chelsea's impending defeat... from how I phrased it, I guess it's a matter of time. With so many great names in the squad battling for limited spots, it's no wonder the team may tear apart soon.

Scoring 2 goals against a current Newcastle side is not the best way to measure a team's attacking prowess. 4-0 would have been convincing for your argument. Or for that matter even the 4-2 defeat of Arsenal at Highbury two seasons ago could have been quoted. Has there been any team in EPL, which has netted 7 times in back-to-back seasons against mediocre defences similar to Newcastle? That's what is called thrashing. United have the record. But that seems like ages back.

And any attack minded team would think over twice before spending 40 million pounds on defence and especially on a left back with 3 already in the roster, fit or unfit.

"Typo regretted" :-)

Liverpool did once put seven past last season. But it was in FA Cup against potential relegation candidates, Birmingham. Chelsea are hopeless when it comes to annihilating teams. I've only seen present day phenomenon Barcelona being better.

Hitting the post is just another excuse. If that be the case, it was significantly evened out with a deflected goal.

And Ferguson was shamelessly saying that Louis could have scored 10 against Celtic, only for van der Saar asking his protectors to pull up their socks and avoid an embarassment similar to the one suffered at Hesselink's hands.

United were decent enough in UEFA CL last season, but unfortunately went out with a wooden spoon. This time, they're playing pathetically especially in midfield with passes going astray, but are winning. Ironic.

Hitting the post once might be an excuse...but Ron did hit the post thrice! One problem with ManU is they have created lots of chances in the last 2 seasons, but not scored many.

In Europe, I wouldn't care if ManU's performance is bad as long as they make it to the final stages of the tournament!

And Ferguson was right in saying Saha could have scored 10...he had so many chances....but he shd have also said that they could have leaked many more goals.

There goes a Fergie clone in thinking. If you are inclined about results, the element of 'style' will go for a toss, for sure. Why is Mourinho not able to do it? The purpose of highlighting the word 'thrash' is defeated by such loose talk.

Wenger is right when he says clubs deserving of highest respect need to distinguish themselves from the also-rans. Playing with substance and a principle is a basic foundation for it. United happen to be England's representative in the world's most celebrated clubs alongside Real and Milan. With both clubs struggling to instil flair, will United too go the same way?I guess the answers lie in your recent comment's middle paragraph.

And please Silvestre is a liability in any team. Worst of the frenchmen, certainly alongside Boumsong, of course.

The fact is ManU have played well but failed to make it past the 2nd round or quarters in recent seasons...so, I would be glad if they make it to the latter stages. it's essential to play 4-5-1 to win in Europe. In EPL, its an entirely different issue. I hope I am clear on this.

Signs of frustration. But I can only count the KO match against Milan when they could have max taken the match to extra time. Other than that, yes, pretty unlucky against Porto three years back. But their away performance at Estadio Dragao was anything but spectacular.

4-5-1 won't work for United. They're very light-weight in midfield.Don't have a proper defensive midfielder, (discounting O'shea, Fletcher, Smith, of course). Carrick doesn't look the missing piece of the jigsaw. He would have been a perfect Arsenal player if only Wenger had moved for him 2 seasons back. Anyway, Cesc is there in that role now.

4-4-1-1 might work. That too with Saha up front and Rooney in the hole. Rooney looks lost in the solo striker role. A target man would give them options to shuffle game plans (with Ronaldo's magnanimity in crossing the ball taken for granted, of course :D). Solksjaer is there, but Rossi must've stayed.
