Ruud Departure

As expected, Real has completed the signing of Ruud VanNistelrooy from ManUtd after agreeing to a deal worth just more than 10 million pounds. It's a pity that Ruud's wonderful career at ManUtd has to end this way.

Watch some of Ruud's greatest goals here...

Thanks for all the memories, Ruud....we'll miss you in the EPL!

Goal Record at ManUtd...
EPL - 150 goals in 219 appearances
Europe - 38 goals

His five or so years in ManU had been legendary, and I really applaude him for that. Top scorer twice and boasting a goal ratio better than any player in EPL. Even Henry is inferior in this department. ;)

Sadly he ends up like this... On hindsight, Ferguson has done this with other players too: Stam, Beckham, Keane. Actually I wonder who's next in line.

Consolation is, ManU has a Wayne Rooney and a Louis Saha to be contented with. But, fact is, Ruud is certainly an irreplaceable striker.

yeah...i am not sure though either Rooney or Saha is capable of 20 goals a season...Ruud is the perfect striker! It's definitely a steal for Rea to get Ruud for 10 million pounds. Fergie erred big time on making his differences with Ruud public.

Most of those running from deep must've been before 2002-03 as I have almost followed Ruud (not with awe though)since 2003. Going by the stark difference in performance, I would surely go with Fergie's decision to sell him. With a more self-centred/talented-enough-to-go-for goal Ronaldo, he hasn't got enough feed. Plus, sheer Wenger logic would be that this was the last year when clubs would pay him so much as he would be past 30 next season.

Henry is not one-touch. To compare him and Ruud is not sane. But still Henry's assists tally more than those provided by Ronaldinho, if Steve Mcmahon and Gerry Armstrong are true. And he has been consistent and not been withered down by age and injuries like van Nistelrooy.

Wish Beckham service and a shrewd coach do him and the forgotten giants viz Real Madrid a world of good.

Inspite of some insipid performances in the world cup, I hold Dirk Kuyt in high regard. Chelsea want him as the replacement for cry-baby Crespo, it seems. Please, don't make a jackass out of urself. Already ur ex-team mate Kalou has done that successfully, Dirk.

Henry and Ruud are completely different...Henry is a classic CF who also creates for his team, while Ruud is an out and out striker....he doesn't miss the chances he gets...Ruud needs the service and that's how he thrives...he missed beckham's and he struggled but then 20+ goals again last season when he wasn't even the first choice during the latter part of the season shows his class...btw, Ruud is 2 or 3 years older than Henry.

I would be really surprised if Kuyt went to Chelsea...he can go if he wants to warm the bench like other players such as Cudicini, Obi Mikel, SWP, Geremi, Kalou. I feel even Essien might have to spend much of his time on bench this season.

Btw, the reason I feel Ruud did not perform to his capabilities at this World Cup is that he was supported by Robben and Van Persie, his rivals from ManU's major rival clubs...we all could see that Robben and Persie tried to be heroic and tried to score themselves when at many times, they should have just given it to Ruud.

After the frist match against Serbia, Van Persie complained that Robben shd also be willing to give the ball to his other teammates, but then in latter matches, Van Persie himself was committing the same mistakes.

Yeah Ruud and Henry are different. If RVN doesnt get the service then he wont get the goals that u expect of him.WIth henry its diff, he can create for others and himself. Henry is more creative.TO me,Henry and Ronaldinho are in a league of their own.
But RVN s record speaks volumes of his ability. He is a great striker no doubt. His strike rate in UCL is breathtaking. As is keep saying, I think he is slightly ahead of Sheva.
HIs reunion with Becks willl mean that he ll ge 20 plus goals this season. He will be a huge asset to Real.I am looking forward to seeing him.As Lucas says, he is a steal at 10 odd mill.
Frnakly speaking,Emerson is extremely over hyped. He is a very average player.I d rather have Gilberto in my team.

Ruud's amazing record might be due to his gymnastic training he's received in his early years. Heard he was extremely agile then. And certainly glimpses of that was manifested in goals he scored.

I also agree that Ruud requires the feed from teammates in order to score. But once that is achieved, there's no stopping the man.

Henry, on the other hand, is not so strong in the air. But his blistering pace and the knack for goal (even with the goal facing his back) covered up superbly well for his apparent weaknesses. Henry might get lesser goals than Ruud, but the quality is plain for all to see.

I expect both of them to do well in the coming season. Ruud's reunion with Becks would provide the former with lots of ammunition. While Henry has Rosicky in Arsenal. Rosicky's a really wonderful player; he knows how to pass the ball when the situation demands. So it'll be quite a fight between the two.

Shev, as compared, is a far cry from the two. His form should deteriorate since Chelsea is, basically, a selfish team. I have little expectation of him by the way.

I wonder if ManU will make a bid for Defoe now? What do you think about that?

ManU's first priority is to get a good defensive midfielder...I think ManU shd give Rossi a chance to prove himself rather than bid for a new striker. But I doubt anyone will be able to match Ruud!

Would be nice if Chelsea still have problems up front even after splashing on Shevchenko. Lampard was/will be the key for goals. Ballack might take some time to settle. Find some way to stop Chelsea scoring. Defenders get cynical like how a Blackburn defender broke Robben's leg two season back.

I’m doing a link exchange and since your blog is also sport focused, it would be highly beneficial for both of us if we could exchange links.

It would be a win-win situation for both of us and I would appreciate if you could visit my site. Take a look at this link if you are interested. I thank you in advance.

Is Carrick the answer to ManU's defensive midfield vacancy? I'm not so sure. Only time will tell.

As for Chelsea, I think Shevchenko and Ballack are good players, but they are up their in years. I was always a bit shocked that Robben was never given a lot of play time-- he was mostly used as a sub last season if I recall. Same goes for Maniche (even more so).

Carrick would not be at home trying to destruct Opponent's play. Hargreaves (too early to hype him but still)fits in that better than Carrick.

Would United be comfortable having someone like Xabi Alonso/Xavi/Fabregas in the midfield or Someone like Gattuso/Emerson/Davids in the midfield?I feel it's the latter. Senna would be excellent.(Arsenal and god-damn Wenger were in for him in December 2004) But he's 30 and is clearly a stop gap.

What if Saha starts his customary fashion of playing 2 0r 3 matches a season? Alan Smith is there. But still some way from match action. Rossi, I'm confident will deliver. But it's a risk not worth taking if one is to keep pace with an intimidating Chelski.

I agree...Carrick is no defensive midfielder...Senna would just be a short term strategy, considering his age. I am a big fan of Mascherano but looks like Fergie isnt willing to pay the high fee his club demands.

As for the strikers, I think Saha will do much better this season (if he stays out of injuries)...Saha and Rooney were awesome towards the end of the season...Fergie knew that and the fact that Ruud's hunger diminished so drastically when put to bench made Fergie to sell his best striker.

I am hoping Rossi to come good this season...keeping my fingers crossed for him.
