Champions League Draw - Round of 16

Revenge time for Barca as they are pitted against Chelsea in the round of 16. I am happy to see Real drawn against Arsenal...i will be happy to see either team crash out. AC have to fight it out with Bayern. It is too early to predict the winners since the next round doesn't start until the end of February...the form of the teams then will determine who will go further. As ever, expecting a few major upsets too.

The Draw...
Chelsea v Barcelona

Real Madrid v Arsenal

Werder Bremen v Juventus

Bayern Munich v AC Milan

PSV Eindhoven v Lyon

Ajax v Internazionale

Benfica v Liverpool

Rangers v Villarreal

Ties to be played Feb 21/22 and March 7/8.

Hairy Tale

Read somewhere that new Indian football coach Syed Nayeemuddin has sent out a warning that there would be no place in the squad for players who are too stylish. Apparently, he has refused to pick some senior players because either their hair was too long or they sported weird hairdos. Moreover, he cites examples of world class players like Ronaldo and Zidane who never aren't very stylish.

Would anyone remind him that Zidane is almost completely bald and Ronaldo sported an atrocious hair style during the last World Cup? With people like him involved, it is no wonder, Indian football is down the dumps!

Random Observations

Some of my random observations...

Ruud taking free-kicks and wasting the good opportunities

Giggs, Joe Cole scoring an awful lot of their goals with help of deflection

Ronaldo beginning to look like the most overrated player in EPL

Newcastle pulling off a miraculous win whenever Souey's ass is on fire

Wenger moaning a lot about teams being physical with Arsenal

England team getting hyped up more than ever in the run-up to the World Cup

AC Milan's atypical struggle this season indicating they have still not recovered from the terrible blow at the hands of Liverpool in last season's Champions League Final

Barcelona wanting Henry when they should focus more on getting a good defender to pair up with Puyol

Dutch League, more so than ever, attracting a number of foreign clubs, for talented youngsters

The Downfall of a Legend!

Sack Fergie!

Fergie has lost the plot completely. The latest setback of not qualifying for the next stage in Europe has made fans furious. Fergie should take the blame for everything that's going wrong. He's still arrogant, seems to have lost his knack of bringing in good players. He sold Stam and Beckham for no valid reasons. He has been bringing in players like Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and sticking with players like Fletcher, O'Shea who should be playing in the reserves.

Releasing Roy Keane, the mid-field lynchpin and captain just because he spoke the truth about insipid performances from some of the players in the teams, was a terrible mistake. Of course, no player is more than the club but Fergie seems to have forgotten he too isn't.

I keep saying this - he has become old and is losing his touch. It's now time to bring in a new manager.

Fergie should be replaced by one of the following people -
Guus Hiddink
Fabio Capello
Le Guen
Ottmar Hitzfield

Hopefully, whoever comes in can build the team, raise the morale of the players and the fans and regain the glory it has lost in the past couple of years.

The Reasons why Fergie should quit.

Will He, Ever?

Here's a good joke doing the rounds lately...

Saddam Hussain gets found guilty by the court in Iraq and is sentenced to death by firing squad. "Any lasts requests before you are shot?"

"Can Peter Crouch take the shot?" says Saddam.
