Need a Striker, Please!
Two draws and a loss - hardly the start the champions would have envisaged, especially after spending a lot of money this summer. But the loss of Rooney against Reading and Ronaldo's red card against Portsmouth didn't help matters. Tevez is better off playing deep and the Red Devils clearly miss the presence of a striker up front. The derby loss against Man City was clearly a shock, especially having dominated the match. City had just one chance and they scored! ManU has to play 4-4-2 this weekend, and perhaps Fergie should give a chance to reserve-player Frazier Campbell who impressed in pre-season games. Btw, ManU are linked to Anelka, Martins, Berbatov, Huntelaar...the list just goes on!
The weekend match against Tottenham, another club in crisis, is a must-win for both teams. Martin Jol is in a precarious position after losing the first 2 matches of the season and pundits are already beginning to doubt if Spurs can achieve the elusive Champions League spot. Rumor has it Sevilla coach Ramos has declined Tottenham's offer and that he wants to wait for a possible position as the coach of Chelsea next season.
Btw, the penalty given to Chelsea against Liverpool was one of the worst ever refereeing decisions one would see in the EPL. ManU should be at least happy their main rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal drew their matches. And, Fulham lost against Boro, thanks to the seemingly blind assistant referee and lack of goal-line technology. When technology such as Hawk-eye is being used in tennis and cricket, I don't understand why it is taking so much time to be implemented in football. The sooner it is implemented, the better it is for the game.

Okay, United played almost 60% of last season (if Saha is considered a target man of course) with a fluid forward line and scored goals aplenty. United fans were so much overwhelmed and excited by their prolific goalscorers that Ruud was hardly remembered. Fergie got all the plaudits for getting his act right again in getting rid of RVN. Mind you, guess they banged in most goals last season since the inception of premier league in 1992.
From where does it come again, this question of missing a target man? Even if he does, what would happen when Ron and Roo get back? And all these names are high profile names, played in competitive leagues, well under 30 and command a starting berth in the teams they play for. Why doesnt he try to get Henrik Larsson back again on loan? Has the thought of breeding a young striker/player from youth team ever struck Fergie after the class of '93? Where is Gerard Pique? Where is Johnny Evans? Giuseppe Rossi was sold without giving a chance at all. Already 70 million and still going strong? Guess United is hell bent on inflating prices in the transfer market this time. Am I seeing Stamford Bridge in 'Red' jersey? ;)
Welcome back Marauder!
Yes, Saha is the striker ManU miss the most...ManU played the best football last season when he was leading the attack...Tevez is more like Rooney, dropping off deep and is not a target man or the main striker.
Fergie doesn't have time on his hands, as he had 10-15 years ago...he needs immediate results and with money flowing into the league and most teams spending like crazy, he has got to spend. Btw, he is intelligent and has tried to bring in young players with great potential who can become major stars and take the mantle once Scholes and Giggs end their career.
Ronaldo took time to become the player he is now...Fergie hopes that happens to Nani and Anderson...Tevez, we all know what he is capable of. I am sure Fergie has spent for the next season. I will be surprised if he makes mroe than one signing next season, although much depends on how the team can develop into a strong unit this time.
I was disappointed Rossi was sold...but Fergie knows best and he knew Rossi at his age needs to play every week and he cant do that this season at ManU. Pique and Evans are in the squad and fighting it out to get into the first team this season...i hope at least one of them makes it big.
Saha is not a target man. You can only call he curbs his movements better than Rooney or Tevez.
Why the heck was the protracted Tevez deal done if he is similar to Rooney. SAF definitely had a fluid forward line in mind when getting him. And unlike RVN, when onus was on the guy to bury the ball, it is now resting on so many young shoulders. A relatively risk free strategy for sure. But what if all these guys misfire and sosme miss out in back to back matches? You want back a target man. So restless and fickle.
Why does this feeling of so much money pouring in coming now? Where was it when Chelsea were running the roost in 2005 when they spent 27 million on Essien? Was he wasted on the bench? Not at all. He would have become a Djemba Djemba had he stayed rotten like any other ManU reserve. ManU's loss was Chelsea's gain. Price maybe astronomical but worth it. Definitely, Essien is the most effective player when it comes to devastating and tearing a team apart particularly in the last 15 minutes.I would still be happy if Nani could prove me wrong. But please for heaven' sake dont give justifications for United's spending spree. Just because ManU's target was stolen from under the nose by the blues doesn't make Chelsea villains and justify United's spending. They still made good use of Essien, Duff and Robben (if only the latter two were injury free). And OT favorite Obi Mikel is also getting to play a lot these days. ;)Fergie has not been able to and will not be able to open his mouth for the rest of his life about paying big for players. Remember the super duper South Americans Veron, Forlan, Kleberson. I seriously hope that the two young portuguese speakers dont fall into that category. Ronaldo is still a growing player, he's still learning. He definitely influences matches in a big way now but influencing big matches in a big way?How many years did it take for him to score his Champions League goal? Needs to do a lot if he is to even close to Kaka or Ronaldinho or Etoo or Gerrard.
