The Show Goes On...

ManUtd continued their fantastic run in the EPL with a superb 4-1 win over Bolton, while Chelsea kept pace with them with a win over Sheffield. The gap between the top two and the rest continues to widen as Arsenal (not suprisingly) lost at Everton and Liverpool could only manage a draw against Villa.
Ronaldo has been in inspired form this season and continues to either score goals or provide assists, when he is not winning penalties as he did against Boro in the FA Cup replay win. I do not understand the hue and cry raised by Boro after the penalty was given for a blatant and clumsy foul by Woodgate on Ronaldo. Looks like some teams just have a personal vendetta against Ron. Opposition fans and players are going on and on that it was yet another blatant dive while the perpetrator Woodgate remains quiet.
Meanwhile, things have been hotting up in La Liga too with Barca, Sevilla, and Real winning but Valencia losing ground. Messi's comeback has provided a stimulus to Barca's otherwise woeful season and his performance against Real Madrid in the El Clasico was one of the greatest in recent times. If only Messi and Eto'o had been fit, Barca would have had a much better season.

Tackle from behind, looks straight forward a penalty for me.

But an interesting observation or a question rather, who has been penalised the most times for diving?I've seen Ronaldo get yellow carded twice and Ruud van Nistelrooy, once certainly in different matches against Arsenal in the past three seasons.

Any other players in the elite list?

The elite list would probably include Pires, Drogba, Robben.

I think Pires got a yellow at the Mestalla when Valencia knocked Arsenal out, 3 seasons back.

Ronaldo has a reputation now which he cant shake off. And to be frank, its all his mistake. He has been caught on camera clearly diving on quite a few occasions. And he is now paying the price for it. Everyone will say he dived even when he gets bundled over and its a clear pen (like this week).

I was watching Sportscentre last evening and it was surprising to hear all the experts saying that Ronaldo is a diver.

The tag will stay with him forever ...BTW, Manu fans (including Lucas) would be happy to hear that he is going to stay at OT for a few more years. He has been the player of the season and if Manu get to the later stages in the UCL then i wouldn't bet against him getting the European player or World player of the year. And it will be well deserved as he has been fab.

A reputation once formed is hard to cast away. But the British media has especially been hard on him for his part in the Rooney send-off. When will they ever realize England is not good enough to win a World Cup?

Yes...Ronaldo has been one of the best players this season. I seriously doubt if any other player can claim to have donw better than him this season. However, given his reputation and the fact that the media and opposition players loathe his excellence, it is a doubt if he can get an award that he truly deserves.
