VICTORY TO FOOTBALL

This is the 100th post in my blog and I am in a euphoric mood as Barca breezed through to the quarterfinals after they drew 1-1 with Chelsea in the Nou Camp. Ronaldinho magic in the 78th minute gave them the lead while Lampard scored a consolation goal for Chelsea from a harsh penalty in injury time. An injured Messi substitution in the 23rd minute and Puyol's yellow card that results in a suspension were the only concerns for Barca as they proved why they are the best club in Europe as they dazzled past Chelsea.

Also, Mourinho who often boasts he was won everything in football, can learn a few things from Barca manager Frank Rijkaard who is dignity personified as he refused to be drawn into a war of words with Jose and also pointed out that Barca fans were wrong in abusing the Chelsea manager. Jose is yet to understand that it is beneath his dignity as a coach of a powerful club to malign players and referees and direct accusations at them.

The victory to Barca is a victory to the beautiful game!

Barca - Lyon...it would be really interesting...can't believe houllier is the manager in Lyon. In CL, anything can happen though...let's see wen the draw is out.

Unlikely to see an all Italian QF like the one last year.Benfica and Lyon are like pocket size dynamites.Unpredictable.

Arsenal will find the going tough from now on.Benfica, I thought, will be the lightweights. But they have beaten two former champions and must be having their tails up.Maybe, with a spanish opposition Arsenal maybe allowed the space they need to open up. Does not guarantee any victory though. If pitted against Italian teams, Wenger can very well kiss CFL dream goodbye. The defeat of Inter at San Siro three years ago was just an aberration. It happens once in a blue moon, Thierry on such a goal scoring spree at one of the most intimidating venues in Europe, called San Siro.

A wishlist on the match ups would be

Arsenal vs Villareal
Barcelona vs Inter
Benfica vs Juve
AC vs Lyon

I dont think so. Arsenal also thrashed roma a few seasons back and did well against juve too. Milan or inter will be tough but i feel they stand a decent chance. If i were Wenger i will be hoping nt to meet Barca or Lyon.I have a feeling that Lyon might do well. . maybe even go the distance.
With all due respect to liv and none so at all for manu, i ll be happy if we draw Benfica.

Juve are able to deliver the goods even with a below par performance,in Serie - A or in CFL. Speaks volumes about the team's tenacity. It's not the new fortess-in-the-making Lyon or the solid AC Milan but Juve, which I will single out as the main threat to Barcelona.

Arsenal's weakness aginst bullying teams has been exposed of late more than ever before. Italian teams are a pioneer in physical approach play. Once few robust tackles and nudges fly, Arsenal will become apprehensive.

Also Arsenal's defence is poor at patrolling curling aerial balls to safety. If the midfield allows him to dictate play,a player as good as Simao can exploit this weakness to good effect. Benfica is not to be under-estimated. Their defence appears to be an estabilished one.

Well played Barca...i must admit that the best team won. We (Chelsea) have little to complain and wish Barca all the best (though I personally would like to see Lyon winning this year). We are proud of our players, coach and the club. As the title suggests, its football that was winner that night.

I think u v misunderstood the title or maybe i have. Wat Luc means is that barca winning was a win for football. "Football was the winner" is probably more apt for the Arsenal-Real game.
Off topic, wat a humdinger by Gallas.

Hmm...Barca sure learnt their lesson from last season's loss against Chelsea. Barca has been a joy to watch the last couple of seasons and their victory just proves that teams can win by playing attractive football...Yep, Barca winning was a victory to football.

Btw, Arsenal deserved to make it to the quarters. Real have realized their folly in their galacticos policy a bit too late but i guess, their new President can never be as obtuse as Perez was...Real fans can certainly hope for a better year ahead.
