News of the World

Eto'o maintained his great form as he scored a hat-trick for Cameroon as they thrashed World Cup qualifier Angola 3-1 in the African Nations Cup. He is already being linked to a 40 million pound summer move to Russian-mafia sponsored Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Eto-less Barcelona registered their 13th consecutive league win with a 2-0 home win over lowly Alaves. Swedish legend Henrik Larsson and Argentine starlet Loinel Messi, touted as the "new Maradona" scored the goals.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has called on UEFA to open an inquiry into allegations that Olympique Marseille players received injections before the 1993 Champions League final. Marseille beat Milan 1-0 to become the first French club to lift Europe's top club trophy. Former Marseille player Jean-Jacques Eydelie was quoted in the French sports weekly L'Equipe Magazine on Saturday as saying: "Before the final, we were asked to stand in line in order to receive an injection."

After the win over Liverpool, a delirious Fergie attributed the victory to the quality of the ManUtd team. Undoubtedly a spirited display by the ManUtd players, but I still do not know what quality Fergie was talking about.

Arsene Wenger has signed on a teenage sensation from relegated club Southampton for $20 million. Theo Walcott is seen as a player similar to his supposed idol Henry and with Henry yet to sign a new contract, could this signing be viewed as Henry's replacement? Only time will tell. Btw, a sorry Arsenal lost 1-0 away at Everton on Saturday.

Coming back to the African Nations Cup, Arsenal's new signing Adebayor wants to quit the tournament because he was "benched" in Togo's first match, which they lost. Arsenal would only be happy to welcome him back sooner than expected, especially after their pitiful away defeats are being attributed to their opponents' physical game.

I am shocked by the news that Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has signed a new contract. Just when everyone thought that a world-class keeper that he is would leave after not being able to dislodge Petr Cech in the starting XI for nearly one-and-half years now, he has signed a deal that keeps him at Stamford Bridge till 2009. What can I say...more proof that money has become more important than playing football.

There have been more revelations by "News of the World" which caused a scandal by getting Sven to voice his personal thoughts about the game in England and some of his players. It is now being alleged that Sven also spoke about corruption in the Premier League and how three EPL clubs were involved in shady dealings. Well, we do already know about Chelsea but I wonder what other teams he is talking about.

Finally, the English FA has decided on the future of the England boss after a brief meeting with Sven. Sven will step down after this summer's World Cup. There is already intense speculation about the next manager with several names already linked with the post including Sam Allardyce, Alan Curbishley, Stuart Pearce, Steve McLaren, Guus Hiddink and lately, Big Phil Scolari!

He's too inexperienced at the highest level...that shows in ManC's inconsistency this season. Big Sam would be the perfect choice.

Add to Arsenal's misery a Carling cup knockout as well. Leave alone a top class midfielder. They need to bolster the defence. Senderos looks pathetic after his nightmare with Drogba in the beginning of the season. Sol,earlier the better,Retire.

@Luc- I guess thats true for Big sam and Curbishley too. One season in UEFA cup doesnt mean anything.

@mar- And i am sure we wont beat Bolton in the F.A. Cup.If we can get a draw (I am hoping for a miracle) we can win at Highbury.
Saw Real in action against Getafe and i see a definite improvement in their game. Zidane was all over the place and Guti had a blinder. So even the UCL is gonna be tough for the gunners.
I go on and on about signing experienced players. Get Dacourt for god s sake, at least on loan.. Even that greek stopper from Roma wont be bad.
And we keep getting linked with Mainche and Oddo and Mascherano but in the end they sign for someone else.

ManUtd need to sign players more than any other team right now...scholes has been ruled out for the season...O'Shea out for nearly 2 months. Smith, Park have still not recovered.
Arsenal would buy a midfielder this summer...perhaps that will happen after Henry and Cole leave.

CFL berth will be a deciding factor on whether Henry stays or decides to leave.

Actually, I feel for the player. Whatever he owed to the club, he has given enough by being top goal scorer and creator for successive seasons. His ambitions of winning CFL, the only major missing in his colourful resume, are better served by this team with arguably the best attack line in thw world, FC Barcelona. If I can get good La Liga coverage as a viewer, I have no issues in Henry moving to Spain. He also has the possibility of winning the eluding Footballer of the year award too there rather than with stuttering Arsenal.

Agree with u on the Award issue...an EPL player is still to get that award but I am sure someone from Chelsea will get it sometime soon...they are trying to lure all the best players to their club...too bad for football though.

Henry shud have won it 2 years back when it was given to Zidane.I am a big zizou fan but he didnt deserve it that year.
And unless Ronnie gets run over by a truck or he gets some major "essien" treatment , i dont see how others are going to win it in the near future.

I hear Chelsea have offered 40mill for Eto.If i were Laporta/Rijkard, i ll give it some thought.

You can play the waiting game with Chelsea. Essien bid started with 15 million and Lyon ended up selling im fro more than double the initial bid. When they could pay 15 million for unknown Mutu and 10 million for a normal right back, Ferriera, they will surely be ready to pay atleast half a million for Eto'o.

I can envisage some major changes if Eto'o comes to England. Surely, it will be on only when Henry is in Laporta's kitty. And when Henry is gone, AW will spend the money on Torres and bring him to EPL.

And Luc, a question on early retirements. This person called it a day at 26 after helping his country to a bronze in the Olympics when they beat USA on penalties. He is still determined though to end his career with his Italian club. Also, scored a deflected goal in match day 2 of CFL, this year.

Huh. I had already given it as Italian club. Where does Porto fit in? Yes, it is David Pizarro, ex-Chilean captain.
