The Gift!

My immense gratitude goes out to Roy Keane for the way in which the injured ManUtd skipper, with some fierce and harsh comments, spurred on and inspired his team who were on a terrible run, and they managed to beat Chelsea 1-0, ending the Blues' 40-match unbeaten streak in the English Premiership.

ManUtd have taken a huge step in proving their critics wrong by beating reigning champions Chelsea. ManUtd will always remain a champion in the way they have blooded youngsters and home-grown players. What they lack now is a player like Eric Cantona who can inspire the young and talented players in the squad to achieve the heights like they did in the late 90s.

With Keane injured and old, it is time Fergie bought a world-class and proven player in the midfield instead of bringing in untried players such as Eric Djemba-Djemba. In fact, two good players - a holding midfielder and a playmaker would be enough to take ManUtd right back on track. Though it is highly unlikely that this will happen in the January transfer window, I am sure the Glazers will have something to think about after seeing ManUtd's reputation flounder in recent times.

Although I dislike teams such as Chelsea creating an imbalance in the transfer market, I do feel a club with ManUtd's stature should not hesitate to shell out decent amount of money to bring in a world-class player. Fergie is right in accusing Chelsea of trying to stop ManUtd and Arsenal from signing the players they have an eye on - Robben, Essien, and SWP being notable examples. In fact, Chelsea even dared to prise away youngster Jon Obi Mikel who had already signed for ManUtd.

ManUtd do come up with the occasional answer to their critics who question their place in the Europe's elite. I have lost all my respect towards to Franz Beckenbeur who suggested Ballack would better move to Real Madrid than to a fading club like ManUtd. Real was even worse than ManUtd in the past two years with trophyless campaigns ( at least, ManUtd won the FA Cup the season before last!). Of course, Real are a legendary club but no one is more legendary than Sir Matt Busby who built a team of stalwarts from scratch after losing a team of great players in the Munich air disaster. Sir Matt, I salute you and as for you Franz, here...take my middle finger!

In England, only Liverpool can claim to be equal to ManUtd in terms of their history and it is pathetic to see Chelsea buy their way to history! Heartening to see ManUtd showed people around the world that not always does money triumph. If only, players like Essien and Robben understood! Anyway, yesterday's win made my day and what better gift could I expect on my birthday? It was the best birthday gift, ever!

Well what abt Gerard Pique then.Wasnt he lured away from the gunners by SAF.Even Juan Laporta has said that in public.

A single comment aint enough to condemn a legend like Franz Beckenbeur.Because if it worked that way then U d hafta show Keane ur middle finger every week.

When it comes to tracking players noone can beat Arsenal and Liam brady. The fact that they almost got Torres when he was 16 speaks volumes.Look at Lupoli,Fabregas,Van persie...Manu have simply nt got it right in terms of their youth policy.I mean there was once a barrage with becks, giggsy, neville bros, scholes and look now..a couple of buffoons like o shea and fletcher.Frankly, these ppl are nt worth representing a club like Manu.
Rossi looks promising though.
I have great respect for Alex and i think that those who question his coaching skills are daft but he has never really gt it right in his recruits.Veron,Djemba.Kleberson,Forlan and many more.

agree that Fergie has lost his touch...he has become old and will earn more respect if he leave at the end of this season. every club goes through a phase with some good youngsters coming through... perhaps, it's Arsenal's right now.

Flethcer and O'Shea were considered to be one among the best players to come through in recent times but then something happened...it could happen to players like Persie, Cesc and Lupoli too. Let's wait and see before we pass judgement.

I disagree with the "every club goes through a phase with some good youngsters" theory. What abt Ajax and west ham then?Dont they churn out quality players year after year?

as for SAF i think carlos queiroz has accelerated the ageing by suggesting 4 3 3 s and all crap to him.and what makes em think that smith can do a holding mid fielder role.He ll get found out agnst good teams.

Well, Smith wasn't found out against Chelsea! Anyway, playing him in midfield is one of the worst moves.
Most of the promising youngsters these days are lured away by managers on the promise of money. Anyway, Wenger is now saint in this matter. He had a big row with the clubs from which he lured Flamini and Cesc.
