Real Disaster!

In the Champions League clashes yesterday, Chelsea won 1-0 at home and Liverpool were 2-1 victors away at Real Betis but the surprise winners were Lyon who thrashed Real Madrid 3-0.

Real without star players Ronaldo and Zidane but they should be happy that Zidane was injured, lest the score line would have been even more humiliating. Only a penalty save from Casillas prevented the fourth goal.

Lyon don't seem to have been hurt by the loss of Essien to Chelsea and I have really begun to like them. But then, I like any team that beats Real Madrid! My list of favourites in Europe just seems to grow - Juventus, Monaco, Leverkusen and now Lyon!

Hey! By the way, what happened to that latest Brazilian import to Real Madrid? What's his name? Oh, yes...Robinho! He was supposed to have been electrifying, pacy, bubbly, first-class, fantabulous, skillful and prolific against newly promoted side Cadiz in their La Liga opener. Whatever happened since then? Home-loss to Celta Vigo and a thrashing by Lyon!

Coach Wanderley Luxemborgo might say he's not too worried about the result but I believe he's already started pissing in his pants. With the superstars in his team, how can he not deliver?

I feel Real is gonna fight back and try to come back strong. But then, what should Lux do to make that happen?

Drop superstars Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Zidane and Raul from the squad and go for players who can play as a team. I pity Guti who has proved more often than not how much he's useful on the field but still left warming the bench!

They did not deserve to lose 3-0. Likewise, Barcelona's scoreline is not how it should have been. Werder were guilty of missing as many as 5 chances.A Deco deflection goal(why do i often see only his deflected goals?)and a penalty. But full credit to the catalan defenders for keeping the home team in check till the end. If you happen to see, against Lyon,Juninho's two dead ball attempts went in and against Celta too,it was defending dead ball opportunities that proved to be their Achilles' heal.

The Madrid press is synonymous to their English equivalents when it comes to piling up pressure on young fellows. I'm still not sure the grudges you hold are against the hyping press or the player himself. He's definitely a rising star.Confederations' cup was more than a testimony for this. Ramos is also a futute world-beater.

Zidane, ageing warrior cum inconsistent performer.
Carlos, good neither in defending nor in attacking.
Beckham, someone who has totally changed the configuration of the team, that is not doing it any good.
Raul, captain cum wrecker-in-chief.Need to do away with them when you consider the fact that someone like Figo and Owen who were doing much better with the limited opportunities they got were forced to move away.

Cicinho coming in paving Salgado's departure and with many Brazilians coming into the team, it won't be long before you will feel like watching Brazil in action. Then all your abhortions will disappear. The time is not far when they start performing as a unit.
This team has the best mix sans the above mentioned players.A committed holding midfielder in Gravesen, a consistent performer in Casillas,a hungry attacking line. But the defence can perform much better.

Right! They have to build the team around performers like Casillas, Gravesen and not around ageing, inconsistent superstars.

Real does seem to struggle with dead-ball situations and are too vulnerable in the air...that's their undoing! I expect Ramos to come good in a few games and be a good player. But then, with the press hype, he shouldn't get affected.

As for Barca, am still not satisfied with their defence. A better opposition would have scored a few goals. Gallas would be most ideal for them! It's a tough season ahead for them with increasing expectation and the pressure to win in Europe too.

And Deco seems to carry over his luck of scoring deflected goals to this season too!
